First Apple Pie of the Season

I love apple pie and follow (somewhat) my grandmother's filling recipe.  I particularly like the little pats of butter she added just before placing the top crust.  My addition to the recipe is the dark syrup (reduced apple cider).  I boil down a gallon of syrup each year for use in my apple pies.  I may try adding it to muffins and fried cakes.
