At the end of each month there will be a post announcing the recipes to be tested the following month. The schedule will take major holidays into account and I will try to test and post holiday recipes two weeks before each holiday so that you may choose to include them in your own celebrations. Other likely posts may include a pantry list for the month ahead so you can be prepared to bake the pie yourself.
I will be interested in hearing your comments and suggestions so feel free to comment. I am looking for suggestions of unusual recipes in the general categories of Fruit, Vegetable, Nut, Dairy and Meat fillings. If you would be willing to share your recipes, please email them to me at firstname.lastname@example.org. You will be given full credit in the recipe post if I decide to test the recipe. I have one submission so far and hope to receive many more.
The first recipe must be Apple Pie. There is no more traditional or beloved pie in the US. I have posted about this favorite pie before but hope to update and make clear the changes I have made to the recipe I learned from my Grandmother. You can expect to see this first recipe post on Friday, September 25th along with the schedule for October.
For all but the first pie and my father's 90th birthday pie, I will be preparing, baking and photographing mini-pies. The recipes posted will be for full size pies. This is a self-preservation measure. I think we would be in serious trouble if we attempted to consume 50+ full-sized pies over the next year! Where appropriate, I will be presenting a reduced sugar version of the recipe - also a self-preservation measure if I am to continue to enjoy pie on an occasional basis.
This plan will get us started and I am enthusiastic about it. I hope you will be, too!
